Different types of VIBRATORS and their application in construction works

What is concrete Vibrator ?

The vibrator is a mechanical device which is used to compact the freshly placed concrete by vibration.

The vibrations cause the mixture to liquefy, reducing the internal friction of the mix components of cement, aggregate, and water.

vibration of concrete is important to achieve consolidation of the concrete mix which often results in a homogeneous concrete.

The vibrations and liquefaction remove air bubbles from concrete.

  • There are lots of air bubbles in the freshly placed concrete, which result in decrease the density of concrete.
  • So strength of structure decreases and leads to failure of member or structure.
  • The vibrations help to bring those air bubbles to the surface where they escape.

Different types of Vibrators

(used in civil work or construction industries)

(i) Needle (Immersion) Vibrators

(ii) External or Shutter Vibrators

(iii) Surface or Plate Vibrators

(iv) Vibrating Table

(i) Needle (Immersion) Vibrators

The needle vibrator consists of a steel tube, known as a poker, with one end being closed and rounded. There is an eccentric vibrating element inside it. The poker is connected to an electric motor (or a diesel motor) through a flex tube.
